hey guys, pre-med is hard, but so are many majors (and being engineering AND pre-med is even worse!) cornell not only has really great acceptance rates, but also prepares their student VERY WELL for medical school. chill out, if you are passionate about being in medicine, those obstacles shouldn't be too big a problem...

oh, I'm "chill" alright ;)

I haven't experienced this "cutthroatness" at Cornell (I'm premed). Everyone I've asked for help have been very helpful and supportive. Orgo lab was about as much fun as I've had in a class as everyone was just joking around, talking to each other, blowing the same stuff up, etc. during lab. I definitely did not see any of this secrecy and backstabbing associated with premed.

I was talking to a friend who's also premed the other day and apparently my experiences have been unique. She hasn't met anyone who's tried to give her false info or sabatoge her experiments but she has met people who basically refused to help her.

I guess it depends on who you talk to.

what major are you? bio?

is engineering and premed really THAT bad?

Lets make a pact now: if us premed CCers get into Cornell, we form a study ring and help each other out...no bull*****

I got in ED, but...
I'm in :), are you a bio major?

Wow, this pre-med stuff sounds pretty insane, haha... Does anyone know if pre-vet kids are as cutthroat and evil? I know there are a ton less of them... I've heard only about 250 animal science majors at Cornell (heard that from an alum). But vet school is MUCH more difficult to get into than medical school... so what have you heard / what do you think?

Pre-vets are laid back, helpful, and are very dedicated and interested in what they do. This is funny considering that vet school admissions are actually more competitive than med school.

Bio majors have it rough in addition to their premed requirements. You end up having to take classes like evolutionary bio, biochem, genetics, intro bio, etc. The medians are all B or B-'s in those classes.

There are definitely easier ways to do premed at Cornell. You can go to the College of Human Ecology and take HD classes where the medians are A-'s

norcalguy...what are HD classes?

Human development?

yay! for laid back pre-vets... but we'll be taking orgo just like the pre-meds so I'm all for that supportive study ring mcortex and spanks. Us CC'ers need to protect eac other from some of the other insane crazy ppl out there lol :)

I vote for the CC study group too. Premed is gonna be rough but I think I'm up for it. You guys will just have to keep me away from that bridge. =/

Good luck if you're going to be a freshman. You'll have to walk across it everyday. Gets to be mighty appetizing right before a prelim or final.

Yet again, there's nothing like the relief you feel after taking a test. Kinda like what I'm feeling right now. Took my orgo prelim 30 minutes ago.

me too (about taking orgo 30 mins ago), but i'm at peace now, and just bumming until my next prelim on thursday which i have not even looked at since I had two today! (I slepted for like 1 hour yesterday, and that was only because i forced myself to >_< thank god spring break is coming)

btw, HD ROX my sock. i transferred in there not only because it was a lot more laid back than CAS, but because I absolutely love working with people, which HD does. I mean, HD prepares me a lot better than bio would for medicine, after all, I'd rather play with kids than count flies anyday!

What's HD?

I have a biochem prelim on thursday. The relief and respite is only temporary of course. It wouldn't be Cornell if we didn't have prelims right before spring break.

I somehow managed to have only one prelim this semester which was tonight, and no finals. that means I get to drink away the rest of the semester 8-)
