Is the program at Wash U St. Louis ridiculously hard?

I've seen the requirement for the program (3.8 GPA in undergrad and 36 MCAT) and these seem pretty high on the bar, is it realistic/possible with the course load and caliber of academics to maintain such high stats?

yes, the program is ridiculously hard
36 on MCAT is reallllly high as is a 3.8 gpa
In my opinion it doesnt really help, because if you get those stats anywhere you should be going to a top medical school.

hey thanks ive been waiting for a reply! =) I guess what i heard was true i thought my friends were exaggerating cuz they didn't have any numbers to back their claims but a 36 on the MCATs! forget it.

Actually, it is still a significant advantage which you'd appreciate if you've gone through premed. Yes, 3.8 and a 36 is difficult to attain. But WashU is a top 5 med school. Most kids with 3.8, 36 do not get into a top 5 med school. You are guaranteed an acceptance if you have those stats.

I have a 3.9 and a 37. I would be ESTATIC if I get ONE acceptance to a top 10 school this year. A 3.8 and a 36 gives you a chance at a top school. It is no where close to a guarantee. So, congratulations to those of you who got into WashU's program.

Not to mention that they don't care how you get those. So a 15-6-15 is a very, very bad MCAT score, but it's plenty good enough to get a 36. A 3.8 taking joke classes in a joke major isn't a particularly good GPA, but it's plenty good enough to get a 3.8. No reseach? No EC's? Wasted your summers playing video games? But a 3.8, 36? Knock yourself out.

3.8, 36 are considerably below WUSTL's median -- so numbers like those would normally put you in the bottom half of their class, to say nothing of their applicant pool.

what's WashU's undergrad GPA average?

and is the MCAT out of 40? or 45?

Undergraduates who eventually enroll at WUSTL have a median science GPA of 3.9. The MCAT theoretically is out of 45 but nobody ever beats 42 or 43.

well, I mean WashU's undergrad, not those who get accepted by the medical school.

1.) WCL: Don't know.

2.) To the OP: Basically, think of it this way. Yes, it's very hard. It's much, much, much easier than trying to gain admission to WUSTL otherwise.

It also says on their site that in addition to meeting their requirements, you also have to submit an application and interview to the medical school. Doesn't that mean even if someone does meet the requirements they could still rejected?

Probably only in really egregious scenarios.
