Hi there. I'm from China and I'm in my 8th-going-9th grade. I know I'm too young but I've already started thinking about going into an American college in the future.
I know it would be very hard for us international students, so I hope to prepare for it as soon as possible.
I'm surely the top 1% in whole grade. And I always take part in lots of activities.
Do you have any advice for me? What preparations can I do in my age?
Thanks a lot.

First advice, get off CC for now. Go out enjoy your HS. You are a freshman now! Seriously, if you are considering staying - hand around the High School boards here/

Its just too early, girl :)

Your time will come. The only preparation you can do is go out enjoy, get involved in school activities and keep those grades up.

CHeers!

That’s very sweet. Thanks.

Oh, go away, go away! ;)

I meant that playfully :). The truth is, it’s a tad too early for you to be on CC. Get rock-solid grades in high school, participate in co-curricular activities that you are truly passionate about, and just go out there and enjoy life (this last point is very important! :)). I hope you’ll come back on CC in 2-3 years’ time, which is when you need to start gathering info.

LOL but even it is not yet time for you to come here, Tetrisfan! :P

Why not? I’m in my junior year now.

You are here for over a year now. :p

CAPA = College Admission Process Addict! You have just started your junior year and techinically shouldnt be here by the fall of the junior year.

Oh shut up Ajay!

You know its the truth. I can shut up but it wont change.

Look at your post count - it speaks for itself. Join Date: Jan 2007. Thats your freshman year. Busted!!! xD

No, actually that’s my soph year. My school year starts in January from K-10.

OMG.. I can’t believe this.. I’m actually reading a thread started by a freshman FROM HIGH SCHOOL.. Seriously.. You have your time when it comes.. Hahaha…

Tetris your post count would lead one to believe that your already in your sophomore year at college . @ kay come back at the begining of 11th grade and then start posting like tetrsis, but your a bit young now. Enjoy 9th grade, I sure did .

Thank you all. Now I understand the most important point is to enjoy my HS, haha.
Can I facebook you guys? Or can I have your MSNs?

But make sure you enjoy doing things that will get you big shiny medals, leadership positions, publication, or other measurable achievements :)

Not to sound cynical, of course, but simply doing lots of workshops in high school and being the leader of your local recycling club is not going to get you into the top US schools. Make sure you choose one thing that you really love and try to achieve to the best of your ability in that particular area. Don’t get distracted by a billion ECs if you can’t distinguish yourself in each one.

^
Chances are “measurable achievements” don’t get him into the US schools either. Enjoying your youth is much more important than getting into top universities…

Rister is so right, dont dedicate your life to something thats this unsure, things will most likely fall into place by 11th grade, then you’ll plan from there. Just study hard .

Thanks again. It’s really helpful. Well, I surely will take part in meaningful activities.
You know, Chinese schools don’t have that many clubs or activities. But I’ll try my best.
