Is the Tuition Aid Grant (Tag) money free?

I got the letter in the mail. I was wondering if this is just money they give us, or do we eventually have to pay it back? Mine was around $2,000. So it'll be great to have a free $2,000 to go to college tuition.

It is a Grant, so you don’t need to pay it back. It is like a scholarship, but based solely on financial need. I also got a TAG, about $3,300 for a year. You can reapply for it each year, as long as you fill out the FAFSA.

I do have a question though, do we have to contact the HESAA or Rutgers about the TAG?

My initial FA form told me i was eligible for one around $1,900-$7,900 but I haven’t gotten anything in the mail yet :(

i was told also that i was eligible, but havent recieved anything. when should i expect to receive the letter ?

Not sure. It took them probably 2 months since I received Rutgers letter telling me of Financial Aid. I had updated my FAFSA info since then, but my TAG had my old information on it (I guess on the first FAFSA, till we filed the return). We were pretty close though anyway.
