Is the UC transfer decision mainly based upon GPA at the time of applying?

Im curious about this because my GPA isnt stellar(3.2) and I want to try and raise it in my second year. Do UC's take second year GPA heavily into consideration since the GPA you put down on the app is only from the first year?

You submit your grades and a GPA is calculated and once you're done with the Fall semester those grades are sent and the GPA is recalculated and the recalculated GPA is what you're weighed on.

They dont really re-calculate the GPA as the new GPA is already added on your transcript along with your old GPA.

But you don't have the Fall grades until after you apply and then you have to send them in.

for some UCs 3.2 is excellent.

What UCs are you intrested in?

yeah i screwed up my first semester but ive had a 3.5+ since then, and im very likely to get a 4.0 this whole year, but right now my gpa is at 3.0 and i want to apply to berkeley :/
how can i show them that im going to have good grades this year and that first semester was just a fluke?

u can 'show them' in your personal statement and by just improving lol

haha yeah, realistically though i dont think ill be able to get into Cal, but im still going to try my best. the crappy thing is if i get a 4.0 this year my overall gpa will only get up to a 3.5, which is borderline for Cal.

im trying to decide between ucsb and ucd for my backup lol

Bobbak:
It's good that you have an upward grade trend, adcoms always take that into consideration. I wish you the best with Cal and the rest.

no 3.5 is competitive. blow them away with ur essay

btw are you persian? as in babak?

Malishka, I currently attend Davis and Im only interested in SD and LA.

i am persian, way to recognize that :)

and thanks, im defintly giving cal everything ive got, but im sure ill be happy wherever i end up. i just want to leave community college ASAP!

So whats the final consensus?

A 3.5 and a B+ Essay would probably do you in for ucsb

As for Mega, they will take in to account any improvement you can make in your gpa and as already stated, an upward trend in GPA is always good, give it your best, its in reach.
