I was accepted into UMiami's HPME program and would like to go there. however, i think their program requirements are quite difficult. they need a 3.7 gpa, and a 31 on your mcat. I am willing to work hard and realize medical school is not easy, but at the same time, i do not want to commit to umiami and then fall out of their program. I heard that the program is actually pretty laid back. do you know if the program is too rigorous? Is the grading system of UMiami hard, or is it relatively easy to maintain the said gpa?

I interviewed at that program last year, and the question of staying in the program was brought up. They said that there are various support systems in place to maintain the gpa (if your gpa is below that 3.7, they’ll monitor you and offer tutoring or something). Also, I don’t recall the MCAT requirement being so high but they might have changed it. It was a 28 to go onto the medical school after 3 years or a 26 after 4 years.

thanks. i appreciate it.

Just checked the latest MSAR and it said 3.7/28 to go to the medical school after 3 years or 3.5/28 after 4 years.

Oh really? im not sure about the gpa, but i know miami said that they need a 31 now because thats the national average, and thats what they want their students to be at.

You should really call them to clarify then. I think you should get the information directly from Yamilet Medina-Lopez, who is in charge of the program, what the requirements are and if they have recently changed.

Thanks. Yeah Ill definitely make sure to check with them.
