Is the University of Texas at Austin generous with financial aid and scholarships?

Hey everyone,

I recently just found that I have been accepted in McCombs, the business college. That was quite surprising seeing how my friends with higher ranks, SAT scores, better essays (better writers, so this is an assumption) and etc did not get in.

I'm rank 36 out of 552 and got an 1610 on the SAT and 27 composite on the ACT. This might factor into the scholarship?

My parents do make a decent amount of money to the point where I think I will not receive any financial aid. My parents also will not be paying for any of my tuition or housing. My EFC is just above 10,000. This might factor into the financial aid?

I am eligible for in-state tuition because I have lived Texas all my life.

Back to the original question, I was wondering if UT Austin gave a good amount of money to their students. I received a scholarship from the University of Houston for around half my tuition and I won't have to dorm, so I will only have to pay 5,000 a year to UH if I attend there, but on the other hand, without any help from UT, I will have to pay 27,000 a year on average to go there? So money is a big issue for me. Help please!

They don’t give a lot . my brother goes there we make 20,000-40,000 all he got was top 10 scholarship and pell grant. Going to come out with over 80,000 in lomas to pay back. Go where you want to go, but think about the long terms repercussions which one is weighed better. Broke from a prestigious school, or financially stable from a ok school.

Based on your stats and EFC I think the only thing you will be offered is loans. And just for the record, my daughter is a Junior and we have only been paying right at $20,000 per year. Tuition will be around $10,000 and room and board in the 9,000-12,000 range. The University sets other items under cost of attendance like general living stuff (shampoo, hygiene related things) as well as books, etc. My daughter does not spend much on books because she buys used, well in advance and off line.

With EFC above 10,000 need based aid is questionable. With 1610/ 27 merit aid is questionable.

You can check Work Study box in FAFSA.
And wait till after spring break to see your finaid package when you have actual numbers to discuss.
