Is Theatre/Acting a good major to choose?

I'm having trouble deciding which major I should choose...

Either Acting under the Theatre Dept. or English.

My 2 top schools to I wish to attend are UCLA or Berkeley.

I'm going to enroll in my CCC's Scholar's Honors Program which I hear works wonders from 40% to 90% acceptance rates...TAP I hear it's also called sometimes.

Well, I admit I enjoy English and the classes so far i've taken, though Acting has always been my main interest. I'm just a little confused on which major to choose, since I should jot down my major when I join this Scholar's Honors Program.

For some reason, I'm having trouble deciphering which classes UCLA and Berkeley wish me to complete before transferring to better my odds of acceptance into one of these two majors that I end up choosing. Those articulations that are listed on Welcome to ASSIST just confuse me, sadly.

If anyone could please point me in the right direction on this matter I would be so thankful, since I've posted this question before on this board though no one has given me an answer for sometime now.

If you choose Theatre as your major, then TAP won't do you any good since it only applies to majors under College of Arts & Science.

For theatre arts, EVERYTHING matters. In audition, pretty much EVERYONE'S gonna be amazing, and as a deciding factor, your gpa will matter. The competition for the admission is ridiculously hardcore (it is THE hardest program to get into in the entire UC system, even harder than Haas Business School) and the program at UCLA is EXTREMELY RIGOROUS. But at the same time, it's AMAZING. The "professor" will be more like a friend to you than a... professor, and they'll understand if your condition's not good for the day's acting or so. So unless you are REALLY REALLY dedicated to acting, I'd recommend you choose other major.

Edit: misinformation before the edit.

On and also, you wont get to choose the classes, the program will decide it for you, and you will take 5-6 classes every quarter (some are 1-2 unit classes though). I recommend you get all the theatre history and all those "traditional lecture" classes out of your way before you transfer, because it will be a real pain in the ass when you struggle to finish them during your junior year.

go english ftw. I know a few people who majored in acting. they're no better off than before they started school. besides, english is infinitely easier to get into.

thanks a lot both dhl3 and officespace!

Guess this only reinforces my liking of the english major.

I mentioned I was interested in the 2 top schools, UCLA and CAL, and it seems evident, more likely than not that I will end up choosing English as my major. I'm planning a Fall 09 transfer. and with the alloted time I'd obviously like to tackle some English classes at my CCC...

I gotta say though, upon looking over and over at the Cerritos College to UCLA and CAL Articulation, i'm still quite confused on how to read it.

The solid information i can provide here, if you wouldn't mind helping a befuddled mind here, the only 2 english classes i've done so far are

English 100

&

English 102.

Help?
