I'm just wondering whether their is discrimination against Middle-easterners in colleges. By the way I'm from Egypt.

Also, are there any top universities know for having such sentiments toward people from the middle-east.

I'm a sociable person. So, in college, I don't want to be one of those student who join clubs for Arabs and stuff. . . I want to attend a college where students mix and don't have the tendency to stick to their own cultural or ethnic group.

i’m sure it varies from college to college, but here at NYU there’s a lot of international students, and I’ve noticed a lot of Arabs/Asians. I don’t think anyone here would discriminate against you. Sure there are racists at every college, but most college students are young and open-minded, especially here in NY where it’s very diverse. I would hope people at top universities are smart and generally open-minded (not that people in regular colleges aren’t as well).

And joining arab clubs doesn’t mean you can’t be social…it just may give you an opportunity to meet other arabs and eat good mideastern food together i’ve noticed a lot of internationals tend to clump together in little packs, but that doesn’t have to be you.

Ya, I don’t want to be part of that clump. . . I might as well stay home. lol. Do you know how it is in schools like JHU, Northwestern, and Duke.

I can’t say that I’ve noticed discrimination against Middle Easterns at college. If you stick with colleges in diverse communities, you should be fine.

Care to share soccerguy? Because that person said that Wake and Vandy was conservative…but I think they are more moderate than anything. Plus, I am pretty sure that the professors in those “conservative” schools are more likely moderate to left-leaning, considering the nature of academia.

@rsxwheee: I also assumed that Egypt would be considered the more left-winged country in the middle-east, considering its ties with the US. But the thing is. . . if their is this so-called discrimination, I can’t really say no, I’m not Arab, I’m Egyptian, lol. Do you get what I mean?

Is Duke considered a “conservative” school?

Well now I’m confused. I thought “Arab” would be classified more as a race and “Egyptian” a nationality. So isn’t it possible to be Egyptian and not Arab?
