Is there a bus to Blacksburg from NoVA?

I heard there's a bus that leaves from Vienna or something down to Blacksburg. Is this true, and if so, how much does it cost and how often does it run?

Home Ride provides bussing to Vienna:

[Home Ride - Virginia Tech](http://www.homeride.com/info-vt.html)

thank you!

Besides Home Ride, there is also Megabus now, with service between Christiansburg and Washington,DC.

Home Ride has to be the biggest rip-off known to man.

^ KSMJCKIWI, how so?

I’m wondering, since there are no recent posts about the megabus, whether anyone could share information about it and what their experience was like. How do most people get to NOVA, if not via megabus?

Most people drive or have someone drive them. There is such a huge NoVa population at VT you can almost surely get a ride with someone if you pay gas money and aren’t weird.

What if you are weird?

Just kidding, obviously, but in all seriousness, are there any commercial options? Leaving it to chance finding of someone traveling is not something you can count on.

Hokie17, My older son took Megabus from Union Station in DC(he lives in DC) to Christiansburg this May for his brother’s graduation. Got into Christiansburg mid afternoon. No problems.

Take the Smartway Express from Squires to Lynchburg then catch the NE Regional from L’burg to NOVA.

Is the NE Regional a train?

(…never mind)

I’m relieved to know there are options. The long drive to the mountains is wearing on me already and he hasn’t even matriculated yet!

Megabus is good, I’ve taken it before. It drops you off in the train station at DC and picks you up at a sketchy parking lot in Christiansburg. The bus has a bathroom onboard and sometimes working electricity and internet. When breaks occur, the megabus is usually packed, so its an interesting experience.

How would you get from campus to the parking lot in Christiansburg?

The VT bus system (“free” to students) does have routes out to Christiansburg. I’m not sure where Megabus picks up. The HomeRide option does pickups at the bookstore on campus. I guess HomeRide could be considered a ripoff if you compare it to the $25 bus rides from DC to NYC.

The Megabus stop is currently at the Falling Branch Park and Ride at Exit 118A in Christiansburg.
There is service from Squires Center. [General Route Information | Smart Way Bus](http://www.smartwaybus.com/routeinfo.htm)
Look at Blacksburg Transit’s schedules too .
Many kids have cars so you may be able to get a friend to help you . Or get a taxi.

You can get there on the VT bus system if you get creative. Also, random thing to note, there are no buses that bring you to campus on Sunday.

How does the HomeRide program work? Is that a private carrier or is it run by VT?
