Is there a chance to improve my grades? - Is it possible I can get into BU?

Hello!
I am a freshman in high school and I am passionate about attending Boston University in the near future. Since I live in-state and don’t live very far from the city, I have done my research about potential colleges and universities but BU is what really captured my interest. I am interested in majoring for a Biology course.

The year is almost ending and I am still paranoid about my grades and my GPA. I believe, after having done some calculations between a 3.2-3.6 Weighted GPA. I have not taken a(n) SAT/ACT yet but I plan on taking ACT. I am currently in all Honors classes.

The one C in Term 3, Semester 2 of a Geometry Honors class has really left me worried about my GPA. All of my other grades in other subjects have slowly been going up (some hopped from B+ during Semester 1 to A-/A during Semester 2), but Geometry is the only one that is going down. The best I can do is try to figure out what happened and practice more online.

I’ll be taking two Level 1 classes next year and I hope to take at least 3 APs in junior year.

I am not active in extracurricular activities, since my participation is a bit spotty.

I’ll be volunteering this summer.

Are there any suggestions that are required so I can heighten my chances to get into BU? Thank you!

Hi, I’ll be a bio major in CAS this fall. Volunteering is good, keep that up throughout the year (a lot of volunteer work was the majority of my extracurriculars). They want to see dedication to a passion, so once the school year starts up again for you, find activities to do and stick with them. Your second semester grades sound good apart from the C, but the first semester ones sound a little shaky. Take challenging classes of course, but also make sure you can do well in your classes (I had almost all straight As throughout high school, and finished with a 3.9 unweighted and 5.0 weighted GPA). You probably won’t have to worry about the SAT/ACT for a while, but I’d say take both, some people like the style of one better than the other, and take both of them multiple times because scores tend to improve the more you take the tests. For you, to offset the C, I’d say aim for a 1450 or higher (this is higher than the average of 1370 and should raise your chances). And when the time comes to write your essays, pick a story that says something deeper about you and shows some drive and initiative. Good luck!
