I am really posting this to find out if I should be seeing Dartmouth as a "see what happens" school or a waste of 70$. Also if you have any recommendations as to what I can/ should do to maybe better my chances they would be appreciated.

To be sure, Ivy Leagues are a crapshoot most of the time.

That being said, not bad at all…all I can say is focus on what you love extracurricularly. $75 dollars for an app isn’t bad, and you definitely have a chance. Work on school, have fun, and don’t stress. If you have initiative, chances are you’ll wind up somewhere great.

Oh, and you’re a URM…so that is always a plus. duhhhhh ;)

You are Hispanic, which, aside from maybe Native American, is the most desired URM of all. HUGE hook.

Plus you have great test scores and pretty good ECs.

heyfellas is right, at this level you’re essentially just throwing your name into a hat, but I can definitely tell you it’s worth a shot. Just make sure your essay and peer evaluation are good.

Really, I thought black and Native American were bigger boosts than Hispanic.

Just FYI, you can’t “predict” your SAT scores. I didn’t even try to, and I did very well (1990, 1980, 2080, superscore of 2110). It all comes down to how good of a test-taker you are and if you know the material. Knowing the material is easy, it’s pretty basic stuff. That’s why I hate it when people call me “smart” when they hear my score - I’m smart because of other things, not a large number on a test. I know a few really smart people who are poor test takers, which is the only reason they don’t have high GPAs or SAT scores. Just consider that aspect

^^Like I said, Native American is a bigger boost than Hispanic. I don’t know about African American though.

But I mean think about it: The CommonApp has a question specifically to ask you if you are Hispanic. THEN they ask you what background you have. That’s got to signify something.

Bdangle, I can’t tell if your comment is more cynical or self-important. You go into how your test scores only partly distinguish your superior intelligence for what seems to me to be no reason at all. I see no reason why you had to incorporate your own scores and 2/3 your comment. Also, perhaps you should have considered that I am not merely assuming that I will get around a 2200 but instead realized that I may be going off of practice test results. Is it that you just posted your comment so you could boast about your scores or do you just not think very much about what you say?

^ You must have inferior CR skillz
