Is there a competitive soccer club @ MIT?

I would like to keep playing competitively in college, so is there a soccer team that plays competitvely at MIT, eg it's not just a group of people who play for fun, but train and play pretty seriously?

Also, is MIT soccer team open to walk-ons?

There’s a club soccer team, but it’s officially for graduate students ([MIT Graduate Soccer Club - Home](http://www.mit.edu/~grad-soccer/)). I’m not sure if they ever let undergrads try out.

There are always intramural sports, including soccer. You can look for a team that’s fairly competitive and takes games seriously. There are multiple leagues based on skill level and seriousness.

You can, AFAIK, try out for the varsity soccer team if you haven’t been recruited, although you might as well fill out the recruitment form on the athletic department webpage if you’re interested in playing at MIT. At least when I was at MIT, the tryouts were fairly competitive, and many talented players were cut – the team is very good.

do you mean within mit intramural soccer, there are different levels of play?

Yes, there can be up to 4 leagues within one sport, labeled A-D. D league is for teams who have never even seen the equipment required to play the sport and just want to mess around and have fun, and A league is for teams of players who might well have played at the varsity level and are looking for some serious competition, with B and C falling in between. Depending on the level of interest in a particular sport, there may not be enough teams for all 4 levels, but there are usually at least 2.
