Is there a difference in these?

I know this is an engineering forum, but I think it's the best place to a question like this answered.

I am going to be majoring in economics and minoring in math, and I want to take the "correct" math courses for grad school/business school/jobs. Is there a difference between "Analytic Geometry and Calculus 1/2/3" and pure "Calculus 1/2/3" or "Honors Calculus 1/2/3"?

If so, which series of classes is better for me and are these equally difficult?

Mind to post the link to the courses descriptions?
I think it helps the experts to determine it.

Also, your best bet is to contact the department. They know what they teach.

In this list are the various courses. The department recommends taking the analytic courses for economics specifically, but the math minor does not.

[Office of the University Registrar](http://www.registrar.ufl.edu/catalog/programs/courses/math.html)

I am talking about 4211 and 4212 vs. 2311 and 2312. It appears that calc 3 can only be analytic.

By looking at the site you can see that: MAA 4102 Introduction to Advanced Calculus for Engineers and Physical Scientists 1

Is for engineers.

Just keep in mind that even if “Analytic Geometry” is not in the title of the course, more than likely Analytic Geometry will be part of a Calculus sequence.

Either way…the “honors” version will not be required.

The only reason I asked is because on the actual economics major page it suggested the analytic ones, but at this point I am assuming it is not a big deal.

“Students planning to pursue graduate study in economics should consider a minor in mathematics or statistics or take the following mathematics and statistics courses:
MAC 2311, MAC 2312, MAC 2313
MAP 2302
Either MAS 3114 or 4105, and
STA 4321 and 4322. (Students taking advanced statistics might not be required to take STA 2023.)”

Thanks for the info, I will take what is best for me.

In Florida, Analytical Geometry with Calculus 1, 2, 3 is the same as Calc 1, 2, 3. If you want to get a minor in math at a state school in Florida you need to take MAC 2311, 2312 and 2313 (calc 1, 2 and 3). You DO NOT want to take “Concepts of Calculus” (MAC 2233 I think?), which is the watered down “Business Calculus”.

Completion of Calc 1 & 2 satisfies the Calculus requirement for Business programs in the state of Florida system.

Completion of a full Calculus 1-3 sequence is usually overkill for a grad business program (MBA), but is necessary for a Economics grad program, which is very math heavy.

Take the classes recommended by the dept. Also, take additional applied math classes that will help you for economics graduate school. Whatever you decide, make sure your econ degree is “math heavy”

Thanks. I think I will definitely take that advice, as I will either be heading to grad school or business school. The engineering forum never lets me down!
