The LEPs (limited enrollment programs) – Engineering, Business, etc. (check their site for the complete list are more difficult to get into. The remaining majors do not vary…you are admitted to the university or not. Your major does not factor into the admission decision, unless you have applied to one of the LEP. Even then, if you don’t qualify for the LEP, you can still be admitted into the College of Letters and Sciences, and try to transfer in to the LEP later.

[University of Maryland - Limited Enrollment Progams](http://www.lep.umd.edu)

last I remembered, Architecture and Business were the hardest to get into because not only do you need to take all the pre-reqs and get minimum grades, you also need to actually submit an application complete with recommendations, an essay etc. Or at least you do for business. Whereas for criminal justice you need only get the grades.

OfficeJet: Definitely plan to get your application in EARLY ACTioN in the fall; your chances will be better. My D applied to architecture and was admitted early action to Letters & Sciences (undecided), but not to the architecture program (yet). She moved in over the weekend – and is thrilled to be there! Still undecided as to her major.
(Architecture also requires an original work of art to be submitted)

During orientation, the adviser told us that Architecture and Business are very competitive, other LEP once you finished the requirements, you are in.

The two real gems that are not LEPs are Maryland’s physics and CS program (unless they changed it). The business school competitive to get into I heard, but I don’t think the program is that strong in comparison to Maryland’ peers such as UVA, UNC business schools.
