A free and usable one for all students?

Absolutely. The Student Activities Center has the main gym with weights and cardio equipment.

Additionally, if you are a residential student, each quad has its own fitness center. Equipment varies, but there are DB’s from 5-100, a Smith machine and Cybex and/or Hammer Strength equipment in each. Will you be living on campus?

The University is also constructing the new Student Recreation Center, which will be substantially larger than the current University gym in the Student Activities Center. I believe the anticipated completion date is sometime in 2012.

I spent most of my time at the Dreiser Fitness Center (Tabler Quad).

I thought that the main weight room was in the Athletic building? The SAC is good, but the Athletic building is better.

The Sports Complex does have a fitness room available, but not many know about it nor is it very popular among non-athletics. There’s also a facility for athletes as well, but generally regular students aren’t permitted.
