My first score in September was lower than I expected and I don't feel I did a good job two days ago either. I'd like to give it a try at least 2 more times but people say that some colleges "frown" on people who took it more than 3 times. Is it true?

Yes, 12 times total.

You can take it 12 times. You control the scores you send. Unless they are in your high school transcript no one needs to know.

Thank you!

Why do colleges frown upon taking it many times? If you have a legitimate reason and aren’t trying to raise a 35 to a 36 or something frivolous like that what is so bad about it?

Generally, they will passively accuse you of wasting time on raising your score, that it’s a much better use of your time to work on academics or extracurricular activities. Such is the case, but I think this only really applies to schools that require you to send all of your test scores. Ones that don’t don’t really know how many times you took it I think, only the scores you send are considered (esp. if they superscore)
