I'm really trying to find a college that offers Acting as a major for undergraduates and i'm really beginning to question whether theater differs extremely. I'm hesitant to study Theatre because i'm really only interested in the acting aspect not the singing and dancing (even though i know you learn voice in acting any way) Is there a big difference between the two? And if so what colleges offer a good Acting program? I want to study English too so im trying to stay away from strictly "arts" schools.. thanks in advance! =]

I think you're getting theater confused with musical theater. If you look at the drama/theater thread you'll find many terrific programs. Each has a different title for their major. Some call it acting, others theater, others theater performance, etc. Sounds like you might want a Liberal Arts College (LAC) so that you can combine the two. I think McDaniel in particular has a dual major of theater and English (or it might be Goucher).

thanks a lot! =] i take it McDaniel is a school ? lol im sorry a little uneducated with the names .

If you want a BFA in Acting/Drama/Theatre/Performance with the ability to study English, too, you might want to check out NYU, SMU, U. Evansville, Emerson, Otterbein, Ithaca, Syracuse, and Elon depending on how much AP credit you will have. You have to audition for all of those. If you want a non-audition BA program, it depends more on your stats. But, yeah ... ElliottsMom is right. Read the whole Theatre/Drama Colleges thread and it will help you figure out exactly what you want.

thanks a lot for all your help!
