but i’m an international AND Asian (from Singapore), effectively the most competitive applicant pool around, so i’m worried that i’d just not be good enough

Near-perfect test scores and 38 points on your IB diploma? That’s amazing! That means you not only exceed standards on tests but you also perform well in the classroom. I can understand your concerns about being an Asian male from singapore, but I honestly feel that you have a strong chance of getting into schools like Dartmouth. Don’t be afraid! Just go for it and pick some back up schools just in case. You definitely have the skills, so now all you need to do is advertise yourself the right way on your application.

Why the inferiority complex??? For goodness’ sakes, you out-compete almost every other applicant and you’d pay full tuition. Honest to god, if by chance you didn’t get into Dartmouth, it’d by no means be because your application was in some way lacking.

Seriously.

If you want to go to Dartmouth, APPLY TO DARTMOUTH. I kinda feel sorry for you if you don’t.

OP’s right. I’m an international from SE Asia as well, and from where I’m from, a 38 is not as impressive as you might think. A 2300+ SAT score, with 800 SAT 2s are definitely great though.

The fact that the OP does not need financial aid is no longer an advantage considering Dartmouth recently made admissions for international applicants need blind.

In response to your question about applying, I would say go for it. I was certainly impressed by all your work. Just don’t forget about the importance of the essay.
