Is there a point to sending in a voice CD if I'm not applying as voice major?

I've always known that I would never set my sights on a voice major in college. Therefore I will not be doing any auditions for music departments of any college.

However, choir is still a huge part of my life, extra-curriculars, and college resume. Singing is such a passion for me and I am still eager to participate in choral groups in college.

I am classically trained, and I work with our school conductor who is quite reknowned for his talents and work. Our school choir (actually we have many levels) never fails to impress. We're kinda famous.

I have sung solos of major works (requiems, mass, etc) with professional orchestra, either alone or in advanced quartet.

I would like to show this passion in my application to colleges this fall. Do people still send in their CD's even if they're not applying as voice majors? Should I contact the school's music professors and give them my CD? Would it be beneficial?

I know of several friends who sent in CD's of their instrumental music and did not apply as music major, so I wasn't sure if instrumental music worked within same system as voice.

At the least, I would indicate it on my application as an EC, get a recommendation from someone who knows how much dedication you put into this passion, and maybe even write an essay on this activity. I couldn't see how sending in a voice CD could hurt you. At the least, they'll listen and see that you are proficient. I play the piano, and listed it as an EC, and wrote about it in my 150 word common app, but I didn't send in any artistic supplement, which, looking back, I regret. I don't think it would have helped much, but it only could have strengthened my application.

Yes, absolutely, send in a CD of your work as a singer. Your accomplishments in music are no different than an instrumentalist's. Small liberal arts school especially take supplementary materials into account in admissions. The worst that can happen is that nobody will listen to your CD. But a lot of Music Departments do listen to the submitted materials and make recommendations to Admissions, even if the student is not planning to major in music.
