Is there a proper resum

I’ve seen resum

They have their application forms on their websites.

As far as I know, they're the only thing that the colleges will read (or why would they put them there?)

but some ask you to attach a pre-made resum

bumping this up

There is no one universally correct way of writing a resume. Everyone does theirs differently.

Make it as easy to read as possible. Otherwise, no one will read it. That's pretty much true of everything except required reading and even for that, there's Sparknotes. ;)

There's no one "proper" format, but like someone said, make it easy to read. I used the format for a "brag sheet" from one of Katherine Cohen's books.

While there's no set format, there are general guidelines that you should follow.

1) never use more than 12 size font, except for your name which should be in 14 or 16.
2) below your name, write your contact information.
3) NO goal statements - I've been to SO many resume building workshops for theater resumes as well as general "brag sheets" at various conferences and festivals. only ONE of the workshops i've been to advocated a goal statement, and that was for theater anyway so that doesn't really apply to you.
4) small title, something like "highlights of accomplishment" or "summary of achievement"
5) organize seperate sections for extracurricular, academic, etc.
6) for my major EC's, I have intendations below with details so the reader has the option to read or skip, and either way the form will flow.
7) word things in a simple but effective manner (one of 5 students accepted into an AP class sophomore year, etc.)
8) NO funky fonts - something slightly more elegant than Times New Roman, but still something in that genre.

If you have any more specific questions, PM me. Like I said, I've been to dozens of theater conferences and there's always a mandatory workshop on resume building...i have lots of samples too if you want them

I would do it by area- Ie- all sports together, all service, all EC, all music- that shows depth and width

You don't need 1997-2000 and 3 yrs-pick one

is 6 pages too long?

Yes keep it around 2

ReninDetroit can you send me a sample or two ? my e-mail is katiabg@hotmail.com thanks
