Is there a strategy to financial aid apps?

The FAFSA app is a straightforward, fill in the numbers form. Based on the actual numbers, I did not receive any aid last year. My question is, are colleges interested in "the full story?" In other words, would it be advantageous to submit a detailed explanation as to the circumstances that have resulted in an inability to pay?
Do the individuals who work in the financial aid offices of the most selective schools have an interest in a much more personalized approach to financial aid requests?
Thanks for any feedback.

YES, they are very interested to know about applicants’ families financial situation from a more humanitarian perspective… I mean, they want to approach each case not only through numbers but also through the individual circumstances of every family…
So DO explain them about your family’s (and maybe your) need to obtain FA…
BEST WISHES…!

Thank you for your response. Great tips and information!

When you fill out financial aid applications to a school like Midd, FAFSA is only part of it. The CSS profile is an opportunity to provide far more information and is why for some students, applying to private colleges sometimes makes attending them a more affordable or at least equally affordable option.
