I am planning to buy books before the first day of class..so that I will be prepared. Any stores that you would recommend me to buy books from?

ehh, I remember seeing someone post saying you can find out from the UCR online bookstore… but then I personally do not know. l0l0l0l. Maybe professors will send out an email before school starts? :0

half, amazon, ebay, border, but just wait to be safe i know you r excited about books me too

no it’s not that i’m excited to get books really. I’m just not sure what books I need for each class. How am I supposed to buy books if I don’t even know what books are required?

just wait till you get the syllabus . profs give you a week grace period its not like ur hitting the ground running on the first day

Yes – I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to go to the first lecture and get the syllabus and find out what professors will say about the books you need. They will probably clarify it in class or even make last minute changes. And see if you even like the class too. No point in wasting your money on books for a class you want to drop.

Not all professors give you a week’s grace period. They understand the first day, of course… but they also understand that you should know better by the next lecture. I had 100s of pages of reading assignments the first week! That’s why it’s always a little bit iffy to add/drop classes within the first two weeks.

shesasensation, that’s kind of crazy. 100’s of pages to read in the first week? What readings were they?

BRING IT ON >: D

I will murder any book they throw at me

or they will murder u

EminentFigure:

During the Fall quarters, instruction starts on Thursday of the “zero week.” Then the next week is counted as full and is week one. So no intense reading the “first” week of Fall quarter, in a way.

But during Winter/Spring quarters, instruction starts on Monday so that’s already the first week. By the end of it, you should (<– operative word here, haha) have read the first week’s assignments. They understand about people not having books yet, adding/dropping, etc. for the first couple of days… then you’re expected to catch up on it later. Professors usually give a syllabus that tells exactly what and when you are to read during the entire quarter. So by the end of the first week of Spring quarter, I was supposed to have read ~100 pages for my HIST020 class alone. Then there’s the other classes too…

Buy hey, it’s college. It’s normal.

I’m totally fine with reading nonfiction. I once read a 400 page book on the history of salt in 3 days

but if it’s fiction… blegh

some are good but others are downright boring

I"m really scared of English classes

haha was that book by mark sumthing or other lol i read that like in a day
boring!! that was like four years ago, haha i member there was a section about ghandi and salt and fish and salt and i think another section about salt. not sure though

Yeah, Mark Kurlansky

wait till you read “the portrait of the artist as a young man” horrible book. good thing I’ll be learning my ABCs in eng 004 :P

english 4 is way harder than english 1a
english 4 focuses a lot on grammar
like four grammar mistakes is a letter grade down
and in english 1a they dont care as much they care about organization

i am still mad about it :(
