Is there a wrong way to answer an essay

For the college of arts and sciences, the quest. is how has a work of art, science... affected or challenged you?

Could i write how to me managing hospital patients is a work of science that i have perfected

No. (ten characters)

Cav302: you make me laugh out loud!

not a great idea, unless you can write real well on this.

Sure you could, provided that you could make the connection between your response and the question.

Don't write about something you think will impress us. The result might sound forced. Be honest. I really like the word "unsettled" in the question because it's a hint that we want something personal. Have you come across something that "rocked" you? Something that really shook you up?

I wrote about this really ugly painting I saw in the Art Museum.
Don't be fake :)

Unless you can somehow turn it into a science... =P

But with regards to the topic, not really. I took a controversial stance on a controversial topic (hey, I was proud of that essay. I'm not giving it away =P) and I was fine. As long as you don't start trying to convert people or damn something to hell, you should be fine.

what exactly is meant by "work of science" a scientific breakthrough, research, inventions?

floridastudent --

anything that could be related to science -- if you wanted to write about baking, that could qualify. Write about thing important to you.

Here's a helpful link from Parke Muth (I've heard him speak a couple times at different events about 'writing the college essay'). http://www.virginia.edu/undergradadmission/writingtheessay.html

I was going to start a new topic but I figure I'll post here since it is on the same essay. It says "half a page, or approximately 250 words". I finished, edited, trimmed, and mine is about 350 words. However, it is half a page, size 12 times new roman. I even looked at the details on Word and it comes out to be 5.8", which is roughly half of 11" long paper. Is this ok, even though its 100 words over the length?

We're not counting the words. We just want people to keep it reasonable and practice their editing skills before they submit their essays.

thanks K_Jo =)
quite a helpful link!
