Is there an oppressive PC culture at Swarthmore?

Hey everyone. Current Swarthmore sophomore here. @mamabear1234‌ has a good point — we do advertise academic rigor. Students here don’t sleep as much as students at other schools. It is tough but we REALLY like to have fun.

Swarthmore students aren’t in study mode 24/7… not even close. We enjoy going to sports games (shocker), music performances, theater, etc. I’m happy to answer questions about the social life, it certainly isn’t a state school but it’s good enough for most at Swat.

I think one reason that Swat emphasizes the academic rigor in the admissions process is because it does weed out applicants who wouldn’t enjoy it here. Many would certainly do well academically here, but Swarthmore is a place where people who LOVE learning come. People have passions here — both in and out of the classroom, and that’s why we might look tired. We aren’t overly stressed (well… not most of the time) but we are overcommitted with things we love.

Are there ANY liberal arts colleges that don’t have an oppressive PC culture?
