Is there any advantage to accepting offer early..

By that I mean like sending it before May 1st....or would it make no difference if i send it in postmarked that very day?

It makes no difference

Yes it does. You can’t get your Net ID until you have sent in your deposit, and you can’t sign up for housing until you have Net ID. The deadline for housing is May 1. Housing priority is first come first serve.

wait how can the deadline for housing be may 1 if the deadline for your deposit is may 1? what if you send in your deposit 4/31? you’d make the deposit deadline, but according to what you said, you’d miss the housing deadline?

What oldfort said not true. While the deadline for housing is May 1st, you can use your Applicant ID if you don’t have a NetID yet. Also, housing is NOT first come first serve. Whether you get what you request doesn’t depend on when you submit, it’s a matter of chance.

Go to housing.cornell.edu to get housing info and first year student site on how to get net id. This was something dear to my heart because my daughter was picky about her room. I was the one that dealt with the housing office. I also had to talk to head of IT at Cornell to get her Net ID before the deposit was processed.

we were able to complete the housing application yesterday with only an appID.

Also, regarding “first-come, first-served” This comes right off the class of 2013 site at cornell.edu.

“First-Year Housing Applications received by May 1 are not first-come, first-serve. Take your time in filling out the application. Wait until you can take a breath and think about your answers. There is no advantage to completing form April 1 versus April 29”

Now, having said all that. If you are sure Cornell is where you want to go, then send it in now. If you are still deciding, then wait. But remember, not everything always goes perfect. Would be a shame to lose your spot because you waited until the last minute and then the postman lost your reply.

Just to clarify, my daughter was waitlisted and offered a spot on May 4. We have faxed over her acceptance letter, but Cornell couldn’t take the deposit online. While they were waiting for the check, we were able to get her Net ID. We were told by the housing office that since she missed the deadline she would have lower priority than other 1st year students.

This is on campuslife.cornell.edu
First-year students must apply by May 1, and transfer students must apply by July 1, in order to be guaranteed on-campus housing.

Most of my daughter’s friends that were EDers got nicer housing. It could very well have been all by chance.

On the housing application site does say you could use your ApplicantID.
