Is there any chance at all...

I really really want to go to Dartmouth. I know it's a far shot but that's my number one choice at the moment. what are my chances?

i am:
- a first generation college student
- hispanic girl
- current junior
- i have a 4.25 GPA (all As my entire high school career)
- 1860 on my SAT (first try; hopefully it will improve)
- editor-in-cheif of my high school newspaper
- NHS
- treasurer of school mentoring group
- taking four APs next year
- am on mock trial team
- foreign language honor society
- will have great recommendations
- a couple of summer programs including one at UCLA and one at Towson University
- live in Maryland

please be honest. what are my chances of getting into Dartmouth as of now? I plan to apply for early admission.

right now, you just look like every other applicant. do something awesome this summer! good luck!

If you can bring the SAT close to 2100, as a hispanic, first gen student you'd have a good shot.

If you can add a hundred points to your SAT, your chances are good. If you can do as well as hmom said, you're golden. If you didn't study much the first time, such a large improvement after a lot of preparation is not unheard of.

Colleges like Dartmoth usually admit every minority applicant with good numbers, unless something else is seriously wrong. They can't afford to demand passionate essays and exceptional talents like they do from white and Asian applicants, since they want to maintain a diverse student body. I'm not saying this is a good or bad thing (lets not start a debate), but it is the simple truth.

i did not study at all for this particular SAT which was bad, i know. i'm taking it in March again and i'm DEFINITELY going to study this time. my math is killing me though.

Critical Reading 640 88%
Math 550 60%
Writing 670 93%
Multiple Choice 65 (score range: 20-80)
Essay 9 (score range: 2-12)

that's what my score report said.

Your race and 1st-generation-college-ness will make up for a lot of your sub-par SAT score, but you still need to raise it. The higher you get it the better, so really study hard and keep retaking it until you apply. Like hmom said, URM + 2100 is usually decent for lower-tier Ivies such as Dartmouth.

Dartmouth rejects over 75% of URM applicants. For some reason kids here don't understand that. The target SAT should be 2100.

I am not relying on minority status to get in. I know i have to work on my SAT score especially if i want even the slightest chance at getting making it. Just looking for opinions.
