Someone told me that in December SAT is a bit harder whereas in May-June it gets easier. Is it true and is there really any difference?

I’ve heard this too, I hear the June SAT is easier because most juniors take it then, but the curve is harsher so it evens out.

This is a myth. There is no evidence that suggests that you will get a better score on the SAT if you take it in one month as opposed to another month. Take the SAT when you are ready, preferably after you have done at least three months of consistent preparation. The January, May, and October tests have the advantage that you will get a copy of the test back.

No. There is no difference.

More non-genuises take it in May/June but the equating is set up so kids who do just as well on a certain test will have their abilities represented accurately.

Some of the tests just happen to be easier in general (though they certainly don’t plan it to be that way; it’s just inevitable when they don’t reuse questions). However, I wouldn’t believe people who tell you to take it in a certain month as a way to boost your score. They don’t decide the scoring until after, so scores are still relative to everyone else. Sections are also given to students at an earlier date and not factored into the score, so even if everyone taking it in June is an idiot and averages only 25% right, getting 50% right won’t get you a 5 because scoring will also be standardized based on how kids who took it earlier performed.

Every test is easier or harder to different people, but on the whole no. You will not necessarily score higher any one test sitting because it is during a specific month.
