Is there any hope at all???

First of all, I am entering my senior year at HS in a top notch public high schools in NJ...I have wanted to do pre-med at JHU for my whole life (I know a lot of people have the same feelings...)

GPA is about a 4.0 (my school doesn't rank....)

SAT I: 2150 (first time...plan to retake in October)

SAT II's:
Math II C: 790
Physics: 710
Bio: 660 (I know this is weak)
Chem: 660 (Again...this is very weak)

I will have taken 9 AP classes by the time I graduate...
AP Calc AB, AP Stat, AP Spanish, AP US History, AP Art History, AP Chem, AP Bio, AP English I, and AP English II

All of my grades are B+'s and A's (one B in AP English....but I got a sure 5 on the test...the class is notoriously challenging in my HS, but as a result everyone gets a 5)

President of Genetic Research Club at my HS (this is not based on a typical popular election, you have to be selected by a board of Rutgers Professors...there is a whole admissions process...only two kids from my school got selected...I was one of them)

Attending Genetic Research summer program at Rutgers this summer (part of the genetics club presidency)

Also visiting a foreign nation this summer

150+ volunteer hours at local hospital

Vice President of Auxilliary at local hospital for past three years (raises money for the hospital by organizing findraisers such as walkathons)

Orchestra from age 8

Private lessons for past five years

All the honors societies (Spanish honors, national honors, Mu Alpha Theta)

Nominated and participated in Natural Helpers Program for the past four years

Me and a group of friends created our own online school newspaper/forum (I'm an admin in there....I don't know if that would count as anything, but it does eat up a LOT of time)
-Very strong reccomendations (a lot of my teachers like me a lot...I can't figure out why...they actually ask me to let them write recommendations for me)

I am a pretty good writer...therefore I will probably have descent essays

-Grades went down slightly in my junior year since I broke my foot while playing basketball (Intramurals...not on school team). I was in a cast and on crutches for two months and had a walking brace for another one month. Will colleges take this into consideration?

-GPA has increased every year from a 3.7 in freshman year...I have heard that's a good thing...

Is there any hope for me at JHU? Would ED help, or should I just forget about JHU completely?

Anyone? I am pretty sure that I wouldn't get in, so just be frank and tell me what you think. You would be helping me, not hurting my feelings.

ED will definitely help, from what I can see of your grades / activities, you're perfectly qualified. Now go set yourself apart :)

In all seriousness (and this is to all the anxious now-seniors posting away) if you honestly think you can get in, even if you wouldn't admit that to anyone because you think you'd sound arrogant, and you plan it right - doing an interview if it will help, writing a unique essay, making your application nice instead of slapshod, getting the right people to write your recommendations, keeping in touch with the adcoms but not breathing down their necks, etc. - then you probably will get in.

Breathe. Enjoy your summer. Start working an apps (not just the JHU app) as you begin to get them. And then go forth and apply.

Oh, and do remember, we know for a fact that the JHU admissions officers read this forum with great interest. So keep that in mind.

Thanks for replying Silver...

I've heard a lot of people on this forum say that you should keep in touch with people at the university to show that you are interested, but what exactly would you talk to them about?

You can't just e-mail them and be like "My name is blah blah blah, and I have wanted to go to JHU for my whole life. What can I do to get in?" They probably get a million of those messages everyday! What would you say to make yourself "look different" yet still show that you are interested? Should I think of a specific question to ask them?

And what do you think of the whole broken leg saga I went through for about three months? Will the admissions people take that into consideration?

The reason I am so worried about this is becasue my grades went down considerably during this time due to all the doctors appointments and coming to classes late and leaving early while I was using the crutches (my orthopedist warned me about this in the beginning itself, when he first put ont he cast...he said everyone's grades go down as a result of something like this). I almost got straight B's that marking period, and therefore I have two B+'s as final grades in AP classes. The colleges most likely will not be able to see my quarter grades, so how would they know that my grades went down as a result of my foot and not because I became dumb?

And by the way how do you guys know that JHU admissions officers read this forum?

(I'm not challenging your statement or anything...I'm new here so I don't even know much about these forums...I was just wondering how you guys know this)

Don't mind my previous post asking about how you guys know that JHU admission officers come here...I figured it out...they actually have official names with confirmed identities...

Any other opinions about my chances????

your scores and activities seem fine and dandy to me. live a little...then write about it. :) and definately show JHU some love!

hmm... i never realized adcoms from jhu read here... :)

LOL....nicely put Spikedsoymilk....

thank you, thank you.
takes a bow and blows kisses to the audience

Can some people who got accepted to JHU give me their stats? I want to get an idea of what kind of stats would give me a realistic chance...
