Hey guys, I am a rising senior and I plan on applying to a bunch of reach schools. Well last year(junior year) I was quite ignorant and didn’t fully understand how SAT scores worked so I opted all my tests to send 4 free score reports to Harvard, Stanford, Princeton, and Columbia. I got a 520 on SAT 2 French and a 740 on SAT 2 Math 2 on the first sitting. I decided to retake French and got 630, and obviously all 3 of these scores were automatically sent to the 4 schools. After I found out about this I smashed my head against the wall and turned it off for the June tests. Luckily, I got a 780 on Physics and an 800 on Math 2. Now I’d like to know if the schools will only consider the 2 highest (June Math and Physics) I send, or will they look down upon me since I’ve stupidly sent the lower scores? If so, do I still have a chance, because my regular SAT is around a 2150 (Concorded from New SAT)?
You should stop taking subject tests and you should DEFINITELY stop sending them off before you know your score.
Harvard et al is going to think you are good at Math and Science and not-so-good at French. For at least some of these schools, the subject tests are a way of assessing your strength in various subjects - they may even be used for placement (hint: do NOT try to place out of entry-level French). They are not a primary admission criteria, but they can hurt someone who continues to re-take them because it shows obsession with a small part of the application (rather than showing your best self in all parts).
You are best off working on your application essays now. Good luck to you, and try to think of some “matches” and “backups” in case you don’t get into HSPC.
