I think the real definition is-

Geek: someone with antisocial behavior, lacking social skills (worse)
Nerd: someone with an antisocial/geeky hobby (fine)

I think the real definition is-

Really it doesnt matter- they are used interchangeably. The person using the word usually doesnt care.

Morale: only geeks and nerds debate the meanings :D

^^ haha

i don't think theyre really that interchangeable though

"geek" is mostly used to describe individuals who may or may not be intelligent, but constantly study, and/or are obsessed with video games/techie stuff.
"geek" usually has a negative connotation, implying that the individual is wierd and socially awkward.

the term "nerd" is more generally used, to classify individuals who do well in school.
"nerd" does not necessarily have a negative or positive connotation, because it usually means that the person is intelligent but may or may not be socially awkward.

theres a definite distinction in the usage i think

I think geek is not that negative, like it just means that your passionate about something, but may or may not be good at it. those people can still be popular and have lots of friends, because their a loser in an endearing way I think.

nerds are just fail, plain and simple

Geek: kid with one obsession. example: the USAMO hopeful at my school who sucks at english.

Nerd: well-rounded work-a-holic. the valedictorian or other top 1% kid. example: ME

Freak: goth kid.

Dork: physically awkward noob.

Stop bumping old posts.

In our school a nerd is just someone who is smart. A nerd can be prom queen, the start of the football team, etcetera. (Actually valedictorian of the seniors was our school’s homecoming queen).

Geek is someone who is just socially awkward and not necessarily smart. They have no friends and no one wants to be around them. However, they are usually fun to laugh at since it is one of those kinds of people who you’ll usually see in a high school TV show.

Sums it up for me.

No there isn’t, because ■■■■■■■■ and derogatory labels for intelligent people such as ‘nerd’ are disregarded by most people who would fall under that category.

Here is my two sense:

Geek- a girl who is very smart and study’s a lot and has no life. She is in Gifted/AP classes

Nerd- same thing but a guy
