I am wondering if maybe the OP made an inadvertent mistake in filling out the FAFSA

If your daughter has more affordable options available, then you should stop considering the Texas flagships.
Heck, even enrolling into a CC would be wiser than attending either.

So, has this D chosen another school? If so, is the OP just upset that she couldnt choose a nearby tx school?

According to posts made in April, the daughter chose another school. She had several that were affordable options but they were not her top choices. Then a higher choice came back with an increased finaid offer…and the mom was wondering if the daughter should reconsider and revisit when she had already gotten excited about the chosen school. The thread sort of died, but my impression was that the daughter stayed with her choice.

The A&M deposit was a housing deposit. It must have been one of the unaffordable options.

Glad the OP’s daughter found a great school the daughter is happy with.

Time to move on from the others in ALL ways, in my opinion.

Yes, it is time to move on and look forward to the affordable schools.

that said, i do think people should take screen shots of NPC results and let the schools know when the results are widely off (when inputted info was correct). There are two privates that recently had crazy results. Those schools do need a heads-up.

I dont think schools should have NPCs that give “best scenario results” but then the actuals are much worse…and then claim that their methods are private. too much bait and switch.

Is TAMU the school that gives these huge ranges on its NPCs???

Mom2, I would agree…but BOTH Texas public universities netted the same results. I don’t think this was a university mistake.

For my D, we did not get the final FA package from her committed school until after May 1. We had to make decision based on the provided estimated FA package before verification. As OP’s D has chosen another school and did not go further with UT or TAM, I don’t know if you can accuse them not even have a package close to NPC. My D’s final FA package is a lot closer to the scenarios her committed school posted on the web.

At most public schools, most need of based aid comes in the form of Federal or state grants. If you were not eligible for federal or state grant aid, it is highly unlikely that you will receive institutional aid unless your child can get merit $.

Looks like TAMU is pretty upfront with their financial aid; it seems that most of the grant money is federal and state grant money, where you may not meet the threshold for these funds.
