<p>“Match” is not just defined by the scores relative to admission stat, it also depends on the admission rate. Matching schools should give you at least 50% chance of admission. For top schools, one may only get 20-30% chance even with perfect stat so they cannot be a match for anybody. You can do some test in Parchment. For instance, ACT 35 with subject tests at 800 and all AP at 5 and GPA 4.0 still gives a 20% chance of admission at Stanford. Once you have the admission stat, it will depend on many other factors such as hooks, legacy, EC and essays. Top schools are not short of high academic quality applicants. The admission officer at MIT said they can remove the whole admitted class and fill all the seats again with equally qualified students easily. So you really need to try to stand out from the crowds.</p>
