Is there any point to the Math IC Test?

Okay so why is there a Math IC test if no one takes it?

And also, does it look bad/redundant if you take both the IC and IIC?

Dont take both tests. The people who take the Math Level IC are usually the people who arent majoring in any science-related courses in college. You know, business, economics, psychology etc. It always looks better when you take one of the SATII maths. If your not majoring in engineering or anything of the sort, I suggest you take MathIC

Plenty of people take Math 1C. My son (non-math/science major) and niece (engineering) both took IC and IIC. Despite everything you read on these forums about how much better people do on IIC, both son and niece did NOT do well. She took college calc as a high school junior and still bombed IIc. Of course, I should note that neither of them prepared for the test…

But does the college give any better recognition at all to someone who got 800 IC and 800 IIC versus someone who gets just 800IIC?

Thats a good question. Needless to say, the material on IIC is harder, but on the other hand its much harder to ace IC. On IIC, you can get 800 even if you have -9 or something. On IC, 1 wrong= 790.

small nit, but they changed the names three+ years ago: Math 1 and Math 2.

If you are an engineering or physical science type, you should take Math 2 since nearly every other applicant will do so. And, for those on the left coast, the UC’s will not accept Math 1.

If you’re going to take a Math subject test, just take Level II. Level I is not that different from the math on the regular SAT Reasoning.

Not all colleges accept Level I. If you’re planning on majoring in something that uses math, such as engineering, take Level II.
