Is there any problem if my SAT I score is almost 2 years old when I apply?

I took the test in Jan, 2011, and got a good score (in my opinion). Never thought about retaking it as I abhor the SAT, and can't think of wasting time actually studying for a test like this. But, my score is going to be about 2 years old when I apply. Would that be a problem?

I'm pretty sure that adcoms are not gonna sit with a magnifying glass and a diabolical grin, analyzing every number/date and trying to find the smallest reason to declare why I am not worthy of a college education, but I still wanted to check if scores that are kind of old might hamper chances....

Tests taken in high school can be used for admission; tests taken in 8th grade or before cannot. If taken in high school fact it is two years old when applying makes no difference.

Those scores will be valid as long as you took the test in high school. IMO, colleges might even be impressed if you got good scores as a sophomore or maybe even as a freshman!

I got a 2240 in freshman year, and I am pretty sure that if I retake the test in junior year (when my mind has matured more) I could get in the high 2300s. However, is it okay if i DON’T retake the test in 11th grade? Will the colleges see that my decent score (2240) was taken in 9th grade and then assume that I could improve but chose not to retake it?

Or should I retake it for the higher score (even if I REALLY don’t want to) in 11th grade?

@Agrasin, IMO you should take it again junior year. It shows that even though you are innately smart, you also have determination to go above and beyond.

In the words of my daughter: “why would I want to waste another Saturday morning when I have a perfectly good score already”?

^ Perfectly good might not be good enough, especially in today’s admissions climate. I second that you should study up and take the test again. A 2300+ score could push you over the edge for some of your dream colleges.

Well, all the past admits from my country (I’m an international) who got into top-20 college had scores ranging from 2100-2230. Many 2250+s were denied, as were many 2300s over the years. I guess after you enter a certain range, SATs matter very little, esp for internationals. Hence, I’m not worried about my 2230 being low or anything.

I was just kinda iffy about the fact that it was old, or at least going to be come December.

I’ve personally emailed many upper tier colleges like MIT, Stanford, Berkley, and they were all fine with taking SAT scores from sophomore year.

Studious, you actually think a 2300 has a better chance than a 2240??
