In two weeks, the first semester of junior year will end for me, and I currently have a 1.87 GPA. What can I do right now to get into a college? I am very worried about this
How are your grades looking for this semester? Depending on application due dates you may be applying with grades through Junior year only, in that case it seems mathematically impossible to raise yourself to a 3.0
It might be impossible for this year to raise it to 3.0, but you could go to community college for a year or two and then transfer in. A lot of students do this, and it’s actually a wise financial choice for many who don’t know exactly what they want to do in school. Get the requirements out of the way in community college, then transfer to the school of your dreams! Good luck. It sounds like you are heading in a positive direction just by asking the question.

I think that the best bet for you is to do as well as you possibly can from now through the end of your senior year. You need to get ahead and then keep ahead in all classes, do all of your homework early, seek out additional help where appropriate, and strive for A’s and B’s. I seems somewhat likely that you might need to then go on to community college. However, a couple of good years at the end of high school and a good year or two in community college is very likely to get you into a good 4 year university.
You have dug yourself a bit of a hole, but it is possible to dig yourself out of this hole and still do very well. I think that exactly what you will need to do depends a bit on more detailed information. For example, you are likely behind in some classes and it will take some time to catch up. I don’t think that we on CC can predict accurately how long and how much work this will take. We also don’t know how your grades split between freshman and sophomore year, or how you are going to do this year.
I have seen people recover from a similar start to high school and eventually end up doing very well (nearly straight A’s) at a very strong university. It took some time and a lot of work. However, it is possible and I have seen it done.
Why do you want to go to college? From your past and present grades it seems the traditional style of education may not be for you.
Have you been tested for a learning disability?
I have ADD and Mild Autism, but no learning disability
Does your school offer any sort of grade forgiveness by retaking classes either in school or online? My school offers it and it could help raise your GPA by replacing old grades. Also, you need to seriously try for junior and senior year, as well as studying for the SAT/ACT, to make up for the poor GPA.
You could raise it to above a 2.0 and take your SAT. You have 3 options. You can go to University of Wyoming, which charges cheap out of state tuition and they have 100% acceptance rate, University of Phoenix Online(don’t recommend at all) or go to a community college.
A 1.87 isn’t a college ready GPA. If you have medical insurance coverage for it, it would be worth working with an educational psychologist to see how you could be more academically successful despite your ADHD and autism.
It will take time to get updated assessments, possibly try different ADD meds, experiment with accommodations, etc. there are no quick fixes, but it’s worth it in the long run. You may need to start your studies slowly a course or two at a time at community college. Many kids with autism go to college on “their” schedule, rather than “the” schedule.
Talk with your parents about your plans for the future.
Try to take 5 classes second semester and six next year. That will help prepare you for college when you will have a minimum of 4 classes at the equivalent of AP level.
Perhaps retake some key classes (math, English) you got a D in.
Think about where the grades come from: lack of work? Lack of understanding?
For instance:
Do you do all the reading? All the homework? Every day? Ask teachers for help? Have a tutor? Listen to advice?
Right now you need to improve your high school results to prepare for college and plan on working hard so they, once you’re in community college, you do well there.
You may also want to explore the trades like find an apprenticeship in baking, plumbing etc…
