Is there any way I can gain in-state residency as an out-of-state student?

If I live in the other state for a whole year and get a job there would that be enough?
I'm trying to see if there's anything I can do to get an in-state tuition rate at my public school.
Also, is there a way I can obtain a driver's license in another state or is that not possible. I'm not very familiar with how any of the residency stuff works.

Most states make it very difficult for out of state students to gain resident status. Assuming you are talking about Clemson - they have a page on their website that explains their requirements. After a quick look, it appears that to be considered for resident tuition you have to live full time in state for 12 months prior to the start of the academic year and be determined to be “independant” - meaning you do not receive any finanacial support from your parents.

This has been discussed ad nauseum in multiple threads - just search for them  Basically, you can’t game the system. Doesn’t matter about your license or address if your parents don’t live there, you don’t live there. Even if your parents were to move there, there is often some type of waiting period. YMMV

When I was a graduate student, I successfully petitioned the state university I was attending to change my residency status. However, I was 25, married, and being fully supported by my husband with a full-time job and my half-time job. Very different situation. Yours won’t count. Listen to popsicle.

Also, residency rules for graduate school attendees may be different from undergrad.

Pierre, if it were that simple, don’t you think that everyone attending a state school in another state would automatically become a resident of that state and pay in-state rates beginning sophomore year?

This varies a lot from state to state.

South Carolina’s rules are posted here.
