I'm really stupid and just forgot to register for the November SAT. Since I'm international I can't register anymore but going as a standby seems to be quite risky, since I'm not garantueed a place. Is there any way I could still register? Maybe through phone? I mean I'd even pay a 100 dollar fine if I have to, I dont care.

I'm in the exact same boat as you, pearfire. Unfortunately, I think doing a "walk in" is the only way. The best way to ensure that you'll get a spot is to get there as early as possible. Also maybe try contacting the relevant schools - yes, I know the website tells you not to, but both the CollegeBoard help guy I called and my school guidance counselor advised me to do so. The point is not to bug them into "ensuring" you a spot, but getting all the pertinent details such as the exact - and I mean the exact - time that the doors open so you can be first in line.

I'm not too sure how these spots come about. The website and the guy I called seemed to say that spots are only there from registered takers not showing up. My counselor and the SAT booklet say it's standard practice for ETS to send a few extra copies in case of standbys.

scorpio, we can't take the SAT at a later date because applications have to be in by January. I assume that pearfire, like me, is also in grade 12. I personally am already registered for a retake of the Reasoning in December, so I can't take my Subject test, the one I should have remembered to register by Sept 29, on that month. And these are the only two months we have.

It's possible, I know, to take more tests after applications have first been sent in and give them the scores, but I heard that some schools don't accept these. Any clarification on this would be greatly appreciated.

Oh this is pretty much what I was afraid of. Well btw, I'm taking the SAT II, so November is the only time they offer "with listening", so... I guess I'll just call the schools and ask about their policies on walk ons. The thing is that I remeber the last time I took the SAT II that we were only 4 ppl, but they had about 20 tests, lol... hope this hasnt changed yet

[quote] Standby Testing
If you miss the late registration deadline, there's still a chance you can sometimes take the SAT as a standby. Test centers accept standbys on a first-come, first-serve basis only if they have enough space, testing materials, and staff—so there is no guarantee that you'll be admitted to the test.

Instructions
To be considered for standby testing, please be present at the test center on test day before 7:45 a.m. You will also be charged a standby fee in addition to the regular fee for the test or tests you wish to take.

Bring a completed Registration Form, sealed in its envelope, along with payment by check, money order, or credit card. Checks and money orders should be made payable to "The College Board."

Please don't call test supervisors for information about standby testing, since they do not know until test day if there will be room to admit you as a standby tester.

Exceptions
Students taking Language Tests with Listening cannot test as standbys. Students testing in Kenya, Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Ghana, or Cameroon cannot test as standbys.

Since you cannot test standby "with listening", it looks like you're out of luck.

Understand that the "with listening" tests require tapes and possibly the listening and/or recording equipment to be sent to the testing site. If you didn't register for it, they won't have teh equipment or the tapes available for you.

Besides, they specifically state that you cannot do standby. Either take another test, or register late for another date.

same problem here, forgot to register for nov sat2, screwed, but i think dec 2 is okay for almost all schools, i suppose a slightly late sent scores is okay, since most deadlines are jan 1 or jan 15, dec 2 scores should be available by then! and even for schools that has a deadline of dec 15, just a slight explanation of the late scores is okay, they have thousands of applications to read thru, i suppose they will just add in your scores to your application profile later.

Yea but I'm applying EA as well, and I need those scores. But I'll just take the one without listening then. Hopefully they'll have some seats for standbys
