Is there anyone who got into RICE university with low stats?

Hi There,
I recently applied to Rice University. I did all my high school in the U.S but I am not a citizen of this country. So, I applied under "international applicant" with financial needs stated.

My GPA is 4.0 (unweighted)
97.4% - GPA weighted
I did a summer research at YALE university/ Southern Connecticut U.
I live in 5 countries for the 1st 12 years of my life

Those are some of the most impressive things about me.

My SAT scores are not very high:
Highest - 600 CR 650 M 640 C (1890) But my super-score would be 1920

You seem to be a very strong applicant. However, the SAT is going to be a big problem. But there ARE students with scores at the lower end of the SAT spectrum so it is possible.

BUMP! (P.S HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! TO ALL CCers )

bump 10 char

Your SAT is probably at the the 5-10% of un-hooked applicants (not athlete, not URM, not legacy or political), while your GPA is probably right in the middle.

If I were an adcom, I would ask myself if there were some compelling reason to admit you while rejecting applicants with similar GPA and SAT 200-400 points higher. There might be, but its not a likelihood.

I dunno – living in five different countries seems like a hook to me. And that resume – yipes!!

Bump 10char anyone? PLEASE CHANCE ME.

Tell me if am Fit for Rice and on a scale of 1-100 (100 being extremely good chance of getting accepted) what would you say my score would be?

^ … 51.2%

How can you not get into Rice with those stats? I mean, the highest GPA in my school is a kid with 96. And those EC’s are ridiculous, and the SAT’s are bad but if you can study and get a 97 GPA then you can study and get a 2100 SAT

Geez some people are a little over-anxious

That’s ridiculous. I give the OP a 43.7% chance, tops.

You do realize that schools all have different grading standards, right? Like, vastly different grading standards.

But yeah, go get yourself an SAT prep book or something, OP. You’ve got time.

re do the sat and take some ap’s and im quite sure they require some subject tests too…if you get good scores in these…you are virtually un-rejectable!!

did I miss something? OP wrote that he/she already applied to Rice. How could there be time to take the SAT again??

^And yet, OP is currently a Junior… I’m confused.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, this was my un-updated resume. Yes, I have already applied to Rice university and waiting.

Thanks for your comments.

If any one would like to chance me please do so.

Huh, my biggest question is why you didn’t try to take the ACT if your SATs were so bad. My friend got into Rice with less things on his resume than you, lower GPA, and an ACT of 33. He took his SATs twice and couldn’t see himself improving from a 1900.

OH BTW, I have taken 9 AP Course:

AP Calc AB,
AP stat,
AP Bio,
AP Chem,
AP European Hist,
AP U.S Hist,
AP Physic B,
AP Psychology
UCONN (University of Connecticut) French 368

anyone there? please keep chancing me…

My SAT Subject test scores were in the very low 600s

Please chance me,… Bump!!!
