Hi, I'm a female rising senior wondering if there's by any chance a pre-college or similar academic program still open for this summer.. I have a feeling it's way too late for anything, but I just recently learned I may be able to afford one, and I don't want to waste the summer before my college applications watching TV..

Virtually any program you have information on would be great.. I'm not really sure what I want to major in, and my interests vary greatly.. mainly the only exception is pure science and math, but I do have interest in psychology and similar sciences.

I know I'm probably out of luck, but any information would be greatly appreciated- please help!

Stevens Tech in Hoboken, NJ, has a few summer courses that look good. We just got a brochure from them last week, so I assume they're still open. You would be right outside New York City.

Remember that colleges generally prefer to see summer activities that are self-generated. Anything you create yourself (a job, internship, business) is better than any program (except perhaps TASP and RSI, which are prestigious).

I just got an email from Washington University in St. Louis:

"If you are still interested in sampling college at Washington University this summer, it's not too late. Our High School Summer Scholars Program still has some space in Session B, which runs from July 15 to August 17. BUT, we need your completed application in our office by Friday, June 15.

You can spend five weeks living in a dorm on the Washington University campus, taking exciting and challenging courses, and HAVING FUN!"

Look into Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth. They run programs at JHU as well as at other college campuses throughout the country. Also, try UVA's summer programs for high schoolers, as well as George Mason Unversity.

Many universities offer summer programs - some are for credit, some are not. I'd suggest you pull up the websites of schools in locations you're interested in, and just comb the site for summer programs for high school students. Your high school might also keep a list of summer college programs. You might try your community colleges also.

Ithaca College has some two week and one week courses.

And I do not know if this is still open, but the Engineering Dept of U of I at Urbana has a one-week Water Technology camp; prereq is junior status and have taken Chemistry. And if you ask, they will give you a scholarship; otherwise, it is 450$ and you stay in the dorms.
