Is there anything you can do with a Minor (in Physics)?

i'm thinking of staying five years so i can minor in physics here at Cal, the only reason being i really like physics.

is there anything i can do with a physics minor? i've always assumed minors were pretty useless lol.

i also plan to apply to medical school as an MCB major, will having a minor in physics help separate me from the pack?

Well, it might help or hurt you depending on how good you are in physics. What is your major? I don’t think there is to much you can do with physics other than if you were to get experience in an engineering intership, then you might be able to do engineering work depending on your major. Yeah, I have a minor in geology which is pretty useless.

What’s the point of minoring?

Also there’s no minoring in like integrative biology right? i couldn’t find any info on it.

Minoring is for people who just find interest in a particular subject outside of their major. I think it is more about just wanting to take classes in something than actually using whatever you are minoring in as something useful. I never even heard of the type of bio you just metioned, so my guess is no.

my major is MCB.

Minors at Cal don’t show up anywhere except your transcript. On your transcript, they’re just a notation.

Some things minors might be used for:
[ul]
as a springboard into a graduate program in the field[/ul]
[ul] gate into teaching the subject at high school level on an emergency teaching credential[/ul]
[ul] evidence of work in the field enough to get an opportunity in a lab/entry-level research, etc. [/ul]

I’m sure you could think of more. Consider whether your time and money is spent doing something like that, however; staying for a minor is probably not cost effective.

nothing, u cant doing anything with any minor. minor as i see it, is for u own personal gain and wisdom that u think will serve u best in ur career. if u think a tab bit stronger physics background will put in better postion compare to ur future co-workers or at grad school then do it.

Only CNR has biology minors, L&S does not have a biology minors.

Majors and minors do not help people get into medical school.

Being MCB probably could only hurt you for getting into medical school because it can very easily slaughter your GPA.

Medical schools don’t recognize that certain majors and minors are harder than others.

The 3.0 English major is the same as a 3.0 MCB major.
