Need help BAD!!! Please!!!

I sent in a form saying i'd pay for a standard room/// does that not automatically guarantee placement into one? because it looks like i was put into a lofted room :/

There was no way to choose. The form that was sent out was simply to have you agree that you would pay for any room given to you, not a choice of which one. It was made pretty clear that the later you sent in your deposit, the greater your chances were of getting a triple, so that was basically the only way to "choose" your room.

Try calling reslife and see if anyone who got a double but does not want to pay for it has called. A few people on facebook were complaining about paying the extra money for a double, so you might be able to switch due to those issues. But definitely call ASAP for any chance.

that really did irritate me - assigning rooms based on when they received your deposit. maybe i'm just bitter... but the way i see it, it's almost a way to punish all those people (myself included) who couldn't decide on going to brandeis until the very last minute. i mailed mine in the very last day it was due (actually i barely got it in in time at all), and yes, i was in a lofted triple, in definitely one of the most run-down dorms.

honestly, though, they aren't THAT bad. a little cramped, yes, but definitely better than what i was expecting. as long as your roommates are nice, you really shouldn't have a problem! and you'll save, what, eight hundred bucks? i'd say it's worth it.

ya i also sent it in pretty late... i don't think they are trying to punish students who weren't 100% on brandeis... i just think they are trying to reward students who were 100%... but i don't see what they are gaining...? is this an incentive for those students to mail their childrens' deposits to brandeis asap?

imo, it should've been done entirely based on a lottery... but as long as this is the only thing based on when deposits were sent, i'm not that upset

starcatch, if you don't mind, can you share some of the difficulties you had in being a lofted room? The cramped space, the lack of privacy, your two roommates hates you, no space to study, etc. Thanks.

maybe i wasn't too clear - i really didn't have many problems! :) (actually - a better way to put it - my problems with brandeis were not related to the fact that i was in a lofted triple.) the space was a bit tight for three people and all our stuff, but we were able to fit it all in without any major problems. i didn't have any privacy issues, nor did i have a problem with finding a place to study. i had no major problems with my roommates, though i was definitely closer with one than with the other. i think that's what makes lofted triples a bit awkward - since, most likely, even if everyone is nice/civil/polite with each other (which was the case in my room), two people are probably going to be closer with each other than they are with the third roommate, just because that's human nature. it isn't likely that the friendships among you will all be entirely... "equal", if that's the right word (not sure if it really is). we made a concerted effort to include our other roommate in our plans and stuff, especially at the beginning... but she didn't really take us up on our offers, she found her own group of friends and stuck w/them pretty much. all was fine, though.

it still really does bother me that brandeis assigns housing based on when they receive the deposits... i don't know, no matter what i do i only can see it as a form of "punishment" almost, i guess because of my personal standpoint and bias. (i hardly even sent my deposit in on time, i barely got it postmarked on the final day... so i'm not surprised i got what i got)
