Is there anywhere else at all?

Each day I find myself becoming more nervous of possibly lack of knowledge I have on my choice of universities, and those I should have long had on my list.

Well, I plan to study political science and economics or international relations and economics. I'm definately considering schools sub par in these particular fields. I'm not the average college confidential, and I find myself towards most universities I apply as match or reach. I also qualify as need base aid, and use resources such as fee waivers etc...
Well I'm definately trying to apply to all my possible schools before December, if not by mid December ( worst case cenario).
Schools I may/ already have applied to:
University of Iowa ( accepted)
University of Arizozna ( accepted)
University of Minnesota ( applied)
Boston University
University of Illinois- Urbana Champaign ( applied)
New York University
Syracuse University
George Washington University
University of Southern California ( completed part 1)
University of Michigan ( deferred)

One of my biggest problems is not having a financial safety ( possibly Iowa, but have not received full scholarships yet due not filling FASA yet). What do you see wrong with my list, how can it improve. I know I will need to possibly remove or add additional schools.
I prefer large schools.

James Madison College at Michigan State fits your profile.

^
That would also be great on my list but I’am unable to attend MSU, plus its about ten minutes from my house.

What!! You don’t want to live at home 4 more years? LOL! Maybe American University - it’s alittle smaller 10,000 but still not as small as the liberal arts colleges known for IR? Indiana University isn’t on your list although also might not be the financial safety you are looking for.

You could always apply to Marquette and Purdue, they’re pretty good Midwest schools.

I’m kicking myself now for not applying to the University of Michigan…I don’t know why, I just never got around to it. I could still apply RD…but oh well, I’d rather go to UIUC, and that’d be cheaper anyhow.

^^
Right, a lot of publics I had to to remove from my list due to not being a financial safety, I got really lucky with Iowa.

^^
Yeah University of Michigan is a great school, I’m really glad I applied early but now feel so odd since I’m the only one on cc who have been deferred, possibly the only one ( besides ofcourse a few others) in the application pool who have been deferred. I don’t know why I my application got snapped so quick ( well my stats were not great, but not terrible either). As for Illinois, I’m also nervous that I may get deferred or rejected, my biggest problem with the school is if accepted how can I make it affordable.

Yeah, seems like we’re applying to a lot of the same schools (UIUC, Iowa, Minnesota, Michigan). I thankfully have a strong chance at getting a full ride to either UIUC, Purdue, Marquette, or Minnesota.

Coolbrezze, don’t you think it is more likely that in state schools will give you the financial aid you need, than out of state schools? I am surprised that you are not using MSU as a safety given your deferral at UM. If MSU is out of the question, why not at least apply to Western or Eastern, just in case the out of state schools are not generous enough with the financial aid. Or am I missing something?

^
Well I’m going to start vastly searching into scholarships that way Iowa and other out of state schools will become more affordable for me ( if accepted/ receive scholarships). University of Michigan is basically the only in-state school I’m considering. I was going to send a app out to Western Michigan University for an ultimate safety but I’am very sure I would have attended a out of state school before WMU ( good school though). Now accepted into Iowa I don’t need any other in-state schools to consider.

So yes in-state schools are more affordable, but I’am more willing to take out a 7k loan to a private school before applying to more in-state, gladly Michigan does have many great universities.

What are your stats. Sat breakdown

Coolbreeze, yes now that you’ve been accepted to Iowa, comb through their scholarships (especially the departmental ones). You could also send an e-mail to your admissions person and ask them about available scholarships. They sometimes have an early deadline, so take the time to at least send an e-mail.

What is your GPA

What are your ACT and SAT scores (including SAT breakdown).

Many scholarship deadlines are soon approaching.

Thanks…

What state are you in?

What are your stats?

Are you EFC 0?

Mom2CK, Coolbrezze is from Michigan (see his location?). From other threads it looks like his GPA is above 3.3 and ACT is below 26. I don’t know the financials (and the other numbers may be outdated).

I’ve given you adivce before man, and I think that you’re good.

Honestly, though, I’d apply to U Toronto if I were you. Exactly what you want in many ways.

Texas A&M might be good, along with Northern Mich.

I live in Michigan, my efc is zero. I’m not really excited about mentioning stats but I guess I’ll mention two basics: GPA: 3.625 W, about 3.5 UW, SAT score with writing between 21-25 ( converted to ACT scoring)

Consider applying to JMU.

And why are you “unable to attend” Michigan State?

^
MSU was once my top choice and I decided that if I was going to attend the school it would be great to be in JMU, so yeah I know all about the residental college and how great it is but I simply can not attend the school. One major problem is that MSU is only about 10 minutes from my house and I would like to attend school out of the area. The only in-state school I’m considering is University of Michigan, but ofcourse MSU is a great school also I’m just unfortunate to have it next door.
