(college application essay), any website…anyone?
College Confidential has a forum for this- be careful who you share your essay with though. Avoid users with little established credibility. The last thing you want is your essay to be stolen.
Thanks! Where can I find this forum?
haha right here College Confidential. Just post a thread asking “can someone rate my essay”.
I would suggest talking to your English teacher, if you haven’t already. Or your English teacher from junior year, if you’ve got a good relationship with them. They’ve probably seen a lot more essays, and can give you a more credible opinion than strangers on the internet.
Students can steal your essay and then you are screwed. Keep it confidential just to people you trust.
This website came in handy when I was applying to college: http://www.essayforum.com/undergraduate-2/
However, if you are risk-averse, you might want to avoid that site, since, as @ClarinetDad16 said, there is a chance that it could get stolen. Up to you.
But if someone’s essay gets stolen, and both the thief and the original writer sends in the same essays, wouldn’t the thief get in trouble too?
As with most things in life, you get what you pay for
Teachers are going to be your best bet, esp. an english teacher. Your counselor should be able to help too. Getting an opinion online, as I see it, is extremely risky, not only for credibility issues, but also plagiarism, as discussed already. However, if it’s your only option, try your best to be very cautious.
Your English or College Placement advisor is a far better choice than someone you’ve never met online.
Simply joining a college site doesn’t provide the credibility that your teacher’s Bachelors (and probably Masters) degree does.
Not all opinions are created qual.
I encouraged my daughter to seek out an adult she trusted, could be a relative, family friend or teacher, to read her essay. They may not be able to assess whether or not the essay would gain her admission but they could tell her of the topic and tone were appropriate.
Luckily her school had a counselor come in once a week just to look at college essays. D took her essays to this counselor.
