Is there financial aid for transfers?

Hey guys!

I would like to transfer to an another school, since my current school just doesn't suit my personality. I am also an international student.

Does anybody know how hard is to get a scholarship as a transfer? My freshman GPA is almost around 3.9 and I am trying to improve it. Unfortunately, my SAT scores are average. I would like to transfer after my sophomore year.

Thanks

Depending on the school, scolarships may be difficult to get for Spring. Most scholarships are awarded in the fall...so the only thing available to Spring transfer are funds from students who have transferred out of the school.

I think he means as a next fall transfer... if so, yes, most schools give aid to transfers.
Good luck!

"Most" schools do NOT give transfer aid, particularly not for internationals. That doesn't mean no schools give it. It just means that you will have to do a lot of checking to find out if you can get aid.

kelsmom, most do not give MERIT aid, but you're almost always entitled to regular need-based financial aid as transfers. If you're an international student, however, that's certainly uncommon.

For most international students with the exception of the schools with really deep pockets (HYP) most schools, certainly not all of the ivies even give FA for transfers (remember they at most schools even as transfers the process is still not need blind).

MHC, international students are not are not entitled to federal need based financial aid, which includes loans and work study. The only thing available would be institutional aid. While there are schools that give institutional aid to international students, it's not that common. It may be hard to find a lot of schools that will accept an international transfer who needs institutional aid. The OP should contact schools to find out before applying.

Here is a thread with some merit aid for transfers, but the OP will need to check if international students qualify:

Oh, I totally overlooked the fact that OP is international. Yes, that will seriously limit it, because I was thinking of need-based federal aid. So it looks like you'll have to focus on institutional aid (check each school you're interested in for their statistics) and third-party scholarships.
