Is There Grade Deflation at Dartmouth?

I've been reading posts at the Vanderbilt site that talks about "grade deflation", which makes it hard for students to get good grades (due to "weed out" courses in premed and maybe law school-bound students). This makes it difficult for Vanderbilt students when they have to apply and compete for graduate school because of their lower GPAs. For those who have gone to ND or whose sons/daughters have gone to Dartmouth, is there "grade deflation" at Dartmouth that makes it difficult for Dartmouth graduates to get into good grad schools? Thanks for your responses!

I would say that there isn't any deflation for the most part. Although, I am unfamiliar with what the engineering students might think. (freshman engineering courses are notorious for being weeding-out classes for all colleges). As for grade inflation, some people have suggested there might be, but I am not so sure. I think many of Dartmouth's courses are graded on a curve, so any grade inflation would be controlled that way.

A lot of the ivies and top LACs are serious about fighting grade inflation. Swarthmore is definitely one of them. I wouldn't worry too much about it at Dartmouth. Graduate programs will know that you are attending a tough school .

Grade inflation, maybe, grade deflation, no.
