Is there money to be made in marketing?

^title

is marketing potentially lucrative out of undergrad or is it a completely worthless field to get into? What you pick between ScM and marketing?

facepalm are you being serial? Your join date is recent and your post count is very low so I’m not sure if this is a ■■■■■ post.

In case you are being serious, I want to quote Robert Frost:

“Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.”

The way I see it, you are at a crossroads in your life where you’re choosing between two (or more) majors. Everyone on this forum is going to tell you to major in accounting and if you don’t like that, then do finance since that is the common path to a decent career (read the road well traveled). Despite the fact that this is the safer route, depending on your talent, your interest and other factors that no one on an online forum can assess, you might be better off going into marketing if that’s what you really want (read the road less traveled). This could be the difference between you having a happy life doing something you love, or a miserable life chasing money. Hell, who knows, you might become a brand manager (strong username btw) or a chief marketing exec and make more money than you would in finance anyway.

But to answer your question, yes there is money in marketing. You’ll just have to really be assertive to get there (although getting the good jobs in finance ain’t a picnic either, and they are much more competitive I’d presume).

Marketing majors from my school get very good offers. A lot go into consulting, too. Then again, the last time I checked, my school was ranked 3rd for it, and since marketing has fewer well paying jobs than finance or accounting, it may very well be different at an average school.
