Is there no difference between getting a 3 and a 5 on an AP exam?

I'm looking at the UCLA website that shows how much credit we get for taking AP exams. I'm taking the Calculus AB exam in a few weeks, and I was wondering if I could just get a 3 which would count as the same amount of credit (4.0) as getting a 5. Is there really no point in aiming for a 5?

If you get a 5 you get credit for math 31a

a 5 on BC gets you out of 31a AND 31b…which is awesome

ya im taking AB though only… ><

Math 31A is a class? So I can get out of that basically by getting a 5?

Also for psychology, it says Title/Course #, and if I get a 4 or a 5, it will be under course 10. what does that mean??? And what if it’s unassigned? i don’t understand this -_-

There are two options:

 1. You get unit credit
 2. You get course equivalency and unit credit

Units will help you with enrollment appointments ([the higher class level you are, the sooner you can sign up for classes](http://www.registrar.ucla.edu/soc/enrollappt.htm)) and reaching the 180 unit limit.

On the other hand, if you get course credit, you can apply those courses toward requirements. For instance, if your major required Econ 1 or Econ 2, you can use the AP scores to satisfy it if you get a 4 or 5.

Some tests also satisfy requirements like Entry Level Writing or Foreign Language. Those are denoted on this table as well: http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/APCreditLS.htm</a></p>

The problem, IF you’re a pre-med, is that AP tests are not accepted for the requirements, so you wouldn’t be able to get out of any core classes even if you get 5’s.

Well I doubt it would be a good idea to try to get out of core classes anyway. You should really be taking these courses at the actual university level and not just AP to prepare for testing/med school. Does anyone know if APUSH credit gets you unit credit or is equivalent to any courses?

As shown in the table from the link I posted above, all you will satisfy with a score of 3,4, or 5 is the AH&I requirement which you probably already completed without the AP. So besides giving you 8 units that will help when graduating or getting a higher class standing, it is useless.
