Is there no risk to taking an ap exam without taking the class?

Can someone tell me if I've got this right. So far I've read that you do not need to take an ap course to take an ap exam and that you can choose not to report an ap score, so if I take an exam that I didn't take the course for and do poorly can I hide it completely from colleges? I'm asking because my school doesn't offer an ap physics course but does offer an advanced physics course and I was wondering if I could simply self study the remaining material and take take the test without suffering any repercussions if I do poorly. Asides from, that is, the $89 the test will cost.

Very sorry, wrong spot for this. Thought I had clicked that link. I’ll repost this in the proper spot so please delete.

A couple of students in my school have taken the exam without taking the class-my friend took an AP USH exam without taking the class. While it creates more work for you and may be a bit difficult, it is not impossible. I would buy a good study book, and possibly work with your advanced physics teacher-they may be able to help you prepare. Good luck :)
