Is there or is there not a Brown University Scholarship

So, in high school, I was often told that Ivies don’t have scholarships, but I just looked on my financial aid package (there were mistakes before so it was just reevaluated) and it says that I got Work Study AND the Brown University Scholarship. But I didn’t think there was a scholarship. I mean is it something else and they just call it a scholarship? I’m confused, but ecstatic nonetheless!

It’s just financial aid. “scholarship” (grant money) is awarded based on need at Brown.

They’re “named scholarships” (financial aid) with money donated by alums–basically what modestmelody said. You’ll get more information on how you can thank your donor (whose money went to a part of your financial aid) during the summer.

Are all Brown Scholarships named and from alums? I knew some were but I thought of it came from money allocated to FA.

Not all of them and you only get a named one if you match up with the purpose.

It’s money that is allocated by aid because it was given in someone’s name for aid and can’t be spent on anything else

But was all of it donated?

Not sure. Some of it definitely was. they’re all endowed so it’s not like someon is giving X dollars today for you.

Daughter has received a named scholarship each year. Not sure if it is for the entire amount of financial aid “University Scholarship,” or a part of her award, or what. For her first year she learned of her financial aid in the same package that included the letter that told her she was accepted (RD) and many months later she learned that it was a named scholarship. She was also told that it would not change the amount of her award either way. It was somewhat mysterious to us…
